While in Puerta Vallarta, we visited El Zoological de Vallarta. It is owned by the Castañeda Jimenez family and located in Mismaloya (famous for the filming of The Night of the Iguana) The zoo has over 100 species in a five hectare area of very beautiful, lush jungle setting. I hesitate to judge zoos, but the animal enclosures seemed mostly spacious and the animals appeared very well attended to. There have been at least six endangered species born at the zoo -one jaguar,three Bengal tigers and two lion cubs.
My sketching was speed sketching as I went from animal to animal, balancing my book and palette. They look a little odd but it was really fun.
